Dr. Cotter graduated from UNLV with highest honors, and obtained both an M.D. and a Ph.D. in molecular cell biology and physiology at Washington University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in dermatology at the University of California San Diego, where he also served as chief resident. He has clinical expertise in inflammatory skin diseases like atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and hidradenitis and skin cancers like melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Dr. Cotter is in private practice at Las Vegas Dermatology where he is involved in numerous clinical trials. He also advises and mentors medical students and resident physicians in his role as an assistant clinical professor of medicine and dermatology clerkship director at the UNLV school of medicine.

Dr. Cotter is an avid fossil collector. He enjoys running weight lifting, and spending time with his family. He is an amateur pit master, pizzaiolo, and wine and bourbon enthusiast.
